If you are a small business owner looking to scale your sales or even someone who is simply looking for a way of making extra income, I’m going to show you how to sell products on eBay that will make you money. The first thing we need is an eBay account -you can register here , it’s free and easy to sign up for. I’m also going to put all the links I use in this tutorial at the end in case you want to read through this first.

Once you have registered, my advice is to buy something just so you can see how everything works. Preferably you would want to buy something in whatever niche it is you plan on doing. Doing this will give you insight into what type of products sell and what prices people are selling them for.
So, to help you do this I’m going to go step by step and sell something. Now, keep in mind that this could be anything, if you are a small business owner and you want to sell more gift baskets for example, then that will be your niche. If you are someone at home just looking to make some extra money each month then your best bet is to start with things you have laying around the house. For my example, I’m going to sell some old video games I haven’t played in ages, so rather than let them just sit there collecting dust, let’s make some money off of them. Here are the 9 video games I’m going to post for sale.
Okay, so now you have your account, you already went through the process of signing up and buying something-we’re now ready to sell something.
When you login, go to the top right navigation bar, and click on Sell, you will then have a drop down menu -click on Sell an Item
Okay, next we are going to click a big blue button that says Start Selling
Our next screen will take us to the category, here you can enter the keywords for what you are selling or you can click on browse categories. In my case since I’m selling “xbox videos games” those are the keywords I will search for.
Once you have chosen a category, click continue on the bottom.
The next page will give you the option of entering a UPC number, the advantage of this is that it automatically gives you a high quality picture along with a complete description of the product. In my case since I’m selling multiple video games I’m not going to put in just one UPC so I’m going to skip this step.
We’re now ready to start creating our listing. I added a title and some other specifications as you’ll notice, it says “Subtitle ($0.50)” those are little upsells that are scattered through out the listing process on Ebay. It’s really up to you if you want to use them, it comes down to the sale price. If I’m profiting $200 on something, I’ll probably go ahead and get a subtitle and some other goodies, since these video games are quite old, and the price I’m planning on is low, I’m going to skip on any premiums.
Next, up we have the picture and description of the product, this is all very simple. In your description try and sell your product but don’t lie, the last thing you want is to start getting bad reviews. On the other hand, don’t worry too much about reviews, most everyone knows there is a lot of second hand stuff being sold here so people know its usually now completely new.
The next step is to see how we are going to price our item. For my video games I’m going to do a traditional auction so I’m going to list a starting price of $20 and leave everything else as is.
We’re getting close to the finish line, we are now going to accept our payment via paypal. If you don’t have a paypal account, get one here.
For shipping I chose priority mail and charged $4.00 for it. As a return policy, I chose “no returns accepted” , however, if you are running this as a way to scale an existing business then you should consider using whatever return policy you have in your brick and mortar store.
Once you are done with that go ahead and click Review Listing. In the review page just make sure all the options of you previously put in are still there.
If you are satisfied with everything then go ahead and click List Your Item
Don’t worry if you think you have made a mistake you can go back and edit it.
With this tutorial, I have only scratched the surface of what is possible on eBay. There are plenty more options one could use to sell things on eBay. There are stores you can open, software to upload hundreds of items, you could even sell cars on eBay. I hope this tutorial will help all of those wanting to sell on eBay get started the right way.
